Chapter 4 Alvin comes back to Canada even though he was offered benefits such as becoming a Canadian citizen but instead, he returns home because he missed his family. When the Roth family took Alvin home, he was in a wheelchair and brought cruches with him. But since, Alvin came home, he had a diffrent personality. He acts diffrent because he was ashamed of how he lost his leg in the war. He just gave more of one-worded answers whenever he was asked about something. Alvin also had decaying teeth and his breath sounds bad so he has to go to the dentist for fillings. Alvin however doesn't know what to do with his life yet. One idea was offering the Alvin to go to Weequahic to get into Newark. Instead, Alvin hangs around with the wrong crowd as well as breaking a law.
While many moved away from a Lindbergh-America, Alvin came back to the U.S. from Canada just to be with his family.
